eShift – Delivering High Impact at a Low Cost
Our customers have enjoyed an ROI of over 400% within the first six months of implementation of eShift. But don't take our word for it. Here's what leaders in the industry are saying about shift bidding.
Healthcare Advisory Board
“Straightforward, relatively inexpensive systems (such as… on-line shift auctions and dynamic scheduling systems) offer the clearest return on investment in terms of direct labor savings. “
“To optimize use of existing staff, hospitals can leverage technology to advertise open shifts to full-time, part-time, and per diem employees. On-line shift auctions provide a dynamic framework for notifying qualified personnel of open shifts and establishing free-market competition, thereby curbing both agency use and premium labor costs.” SG-2, Top 10 Ideas for 2005
Michael Sachs, Chairman of Sg2, has identified bidding for unfilled shifts as one of his Top 10 ideas for increasing retained earnings for 2005. The list was guided by two key criteria: 1) it had to be quick and easy to implement; and 2) meaningful incremental revenues or savings had to be achievable.
Here is how he describes it in his January 2005 newsletter:
“Many hospitals have been forced to turn to agencies to backfill
unpopular nursing shifts—at costs of $50/hour or more. Reduce agency nursing costs by creating a bidding system that enables staff nurses to bid on unfilled shifts—they'll earn more money and your institution will still likely pay less than the agency rate. Your patients and physicians will benefit from a nurse that knows the facility and the physicians.”
“It all comes down to flexibility, not just in benefits or scheduling, but a flexible view toward a work-life balance that targets your entire workforce.”
Jill Schweiters, System Vice President, Human Resources, Covenant Healthcare, Milwaukee (quoted in Health Leaders magazine, February 2005).
